Elliot Barbour has the toughest job of all on any race weekend. The Driving Standards and Prosecuting Officers role is to investigate any on track incidents and then work with the event Race Director and Stewards to determine and apply any appropriate penalties - it doesn’t get you on everyone’s Christmas card list!
He’s been racing himself since 2009 - winning in Formula Ford, the Bathurst 12 Hour, was a race winner and Rookie of the Year in what became known as the “World Wrestling of Motorsport “- the rough and redneck V8 BRute series in 2013/2014, before racing Lamborghinis and McLarens in the Australian GT Series, then SuperUtes and is now a regular competitor driving the Pioneer DJ Camaro in the National Trans AM Series.
Elliot also works as a lead driving instructor at the highest level for some of the worlds most desired brands, so he is well qualified to coach, mentor and lead the discussion when it comes down to maximising drivers potential while minimising on track damage and downtime.
It’s a commanding role, but one that he delivers with passion and professionalism, earning the respect of those on track, who may not always agree with the stewards’ decisions, however accept that Elliot’s input overall will make them understand the dynamics of what makes better race driver. If they listen, they will learn!
He’s not the cop - he’s the coach with a winning mindset at all levels.
