Two-time American Trans-Am TA2 champion Gar Robinson will make his Australian racing debut in a Trans-Am 2 Performax Cup car in the Skye Sands Combined Sedans support races at the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour at Mount Panorama on February 2-4.
Robinson will race the #10 74 Ranch Resort Dodge Challenger, joining six of his Australian Trans-Am 2 compatriots in an invitational event to showcase the category ahead of their national series debut at Winton in March. The Texan is looking forward to racing with Trans-Am 2 at one of the world’s greatest circuits. "Being my first race out of the country I am very excited to meet a new group of racers and broaden my range of friends to other parts of the world. And, of course, I’m interested to see how the race fans are over there, I know they have some of the craziest gear heads in existence and that just looks like a spectacle I have to see!” said Robinson. ”The track looks killer, the perfect combination of speed and cornering. The return of bias-ply tires on the TA2 car makes it even better, I have a driving style that really loves the combination.” The reigning TA2 champion will transfer to the Pirelli World Challenge GTS class in 2018, set to campaign a pair of Robinson Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4s. Robinson will race the #74 car and endurance racing legend, Shane Lewis piloting the #72. Joining Robinson on the grid at Bathurst will be Tickford Racing Supercar team co-owner Rusty French (Ford Mustang), reigning local Trans-Am 2 champion Russell Wright (Ford Mustang), historic Australian Trans-Am racer Anthony Tenkate (Ford Mustang) and former drag racer Cameron Sendall (Chevrolet Camaro). They will also be joined by the father and son team of Ian and Hugh McAlister, who will expand to a two-car Mustang outfit for the 2018 season. Following the Bathurst invitational, the 2018 Performax Cup for Trans-Am 2 commences at Winton Motor Raceway on March 9-11.
